*_The Find-It FAQ: Where can I download stuff for my C= emulator from?_*

This is Paul Irvine's original FAQ on finding Commodore stuff on the Net
for download. In his inimitable words:

"Are you looking for a C64 game or Utility, then look no further. This
list covers most of the well known sites on the NET, If you cannot find
it on these sites then its a very rare game. Only *then* ask in the
Newsgroup for it...."

So, please, read this first! It's short and comprehensive. Thanks also to
Ben Castricum and Kai Spitzley.

The FAQ is also currently downloadable from Jim Brain's site (though he
has had trouble of late):

ftp://ftp.jbrain.com/pub/cbm/faq/cbm-game-ftp-sites.txt
ftp://ftp.jbrain.com/pub/cbm/faq/cbm-game-ftp-sites.MM.YY.txt

and from Kai's:

http://www.heechee.net/c64/cbm-game-ftp-list.txt

and from Ben's:

http://cia.c64.org/docs/find-it-faq.txt

and mine:

http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Vault/8611/cbm/findit.txt
http://cbm.qad.org/findit.txt

and also in HTML, thanks to Laust Brock-Nannestad:

http://www.heechee.net/c64/cbm-game-ftp-list.html

I figure that, in the meantime, there are a couple of sites out there which
use this FAQ, both in ASCII and in HTML. That's okay with me. But please
make sure that you use it properly and only as I posted it (i.e. don't tear
it to pieces or leave out disclaimers, etc.) and also take care that you
have not an all too outdated version. Thank you.

Contact me if you have a site for addition here, or know of dead links or
changes to URLs. In assent to Paul's original and very selective standards,
banner-ridden pages will not be included!

Some of the links in this document point right to download pages and
directories. This might turn out to be somewhat unfair towards the
maintainers of those sites, while it suits the nature of a linklist like
this. Please do check out the rest of such pages while you're there -
people have invested time and effort in their sites so that people actually
visit them, after all.

Important legal note
====================

Because I know what lawyers like to do on weekends:

"Please respect the property considerations of games available for
download. The general rule of thumb is, download it only if you own it."

Many generous companies have also made their old titles available free.
These anyone may download and play. There is a special section for them
here -- please take advantage of them and send them a note of thanks so
that other companies might do the same! Also consider investigating the
list of freeware sites, which, while not offered by the original authors or
were commercial releases, are also free for the download.

Games also appear from time to time in comp.binaries.cbm. These games, too,
are always freely downloadable and distributable.

BUT Please do NOT send sites stuffed full of Banners as these are costly
and annoying!!"
